Brief biography

I am a Swedish-Finnish (of Finnish heritage but born and raised in Sweden) artist with an educational background as a photographer. I graduated as Master of Arts from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki in the year 2000. After that, I was working as a freelance photographer, graphic designer, web designer, artist, exhibition secretary and artist in residence coordinator for around 15 years. Mainly based in Helsinki but in 2005-2013 I lived and worked in the old ironworks village of Fiskars in South Finland, where I also started up and ran the Fiskars Village Artist in Residence Program for around seven years. From time to time I also held  media and arts workshops and in 2009 I started teaching photography full time. A few years later I completed my pedagogic studies and received a vocational teacher’s competence at Åbo Akademi in Vasa, Ostrobothnia.

From 2013, I am the executive director of a regional photographic centre in Soutwest Finland; Photographic Centre Peri. The centre’s aim is to develop and promote photography as a form of artistic expression locally, as well as nationally and internationally. This is done by regularly showing lens based exhibitions in the centre´s own gallery in the centre of Turku, and by offering the centre’s members guidance and benefits to support and develop their creative practice. Peri also initiates and organizes photographic projects often in cooperation with other institutions or communities and the centre participates in art fairs, publish books and upholds a library of approximately 600 publications around the art of photography. Several residency programs has been running since the founding in 1987.

We are interested in exchange and collaboration with international partners across disciplines and sectors. We find collaboration through exchange exhibitions or residency programs particularely interesting. My European Diploma project “LIQUID IMAGE – a European exchange project for visual artists and researchers using digital images as art, tool and method” is also looking for suitable partners.

I’d be glad to send more information on our collaborative plans and ideas upon request.
